News » 13.11.2025 - Ukraine: Poltava restores municipal greenhouses

In Poltava, Ukraine, municipal greenhouses are being restored after damage from shelling on the night of October 2–3. Heating systems are being reconfigured to ensure that flowers can grow in warm conditions, according to the company's director, Ihor Liashko, as reported by agronews.ua.

The combined attack damaged both the greenhouse structures and plants. Some flowers, including pelargoniums, violas, and ivy, were lost, though parts of the crop have already been recovered.

"We suffered significant losses. Pelargoniums that were well-rooted were destroyed. Some violas and other plants were lost, but we have managed to restore part of them," said Oksana Mykulenko, master of the floriculture section.

Over the past month, greenhouses covered with film have been restored. Work is now focused on repairing the heating system to maintain necessary temperatures. Two greenhouses remain damaged at the top, and their pipes are being insulated to prevent freezing until heating can be fully restored.

Due to the temporary closure of two greenhouses, about 45% of the space for flowers is currently unavailable.

"We hope to manage in time, but space is tight. For the spring planting, we have already pricked out more than 15,000 plants of various species. If the two remaining greenhouses are not ready, we may need to reduce the number of plants," added Oksana Mykulenko.
