News » 05.11.2025 - Turkey exported 82 million USD worth of flowers and plants within the first 7 months of the season
Ahmet Dundar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ornamental Plants Producers Sub-Union (SUSBIR), said: "Our most important export markets are European Union countries, as well as Turkic republics such as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan."
According to Ahmet Dundar, chairman of the board of directors, the Ornamental Plants Producers Sub-Union (SUSBIR) became an exporter after 2018 because of increased production quality and the growth of the export market. He continued, "Our most important export markets are European Union (EU) countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany, as well as Turkic republics such as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan."
According to Dundar, 5.800 hectares of land are used to produce decorative plants. He noted that as a sector, they are responsible for 100,000 jobs directly and 500,000 indirectly. He also mentioned that their industry is labor-intensive and has a high percentage of female employees. Ornamental plant production is a sector that supports numerous business sectors, including plastics, transportation, construction, landscaping, and seed production.
"Last year, we exported 118 million USD worth of flowers and plants to 80 countries, whereas we imported 70 million USD worth of flowers and plants. We imported 57 million USD and exported 82 million USD in the first seven months of this year. EU nations like Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, as well as Turkic republics like Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, are our top export destinations."
Dundar reminded everyone that fruit trees were not allowed to be exported as decorative plants due to a 2020 revision to the Seed Export Circular, and that revision has now been reversed. He noted that this ban was abolished this year when SUSBIR met with Ministry representatives on the sector's behalf. Dundar underlined that stocks of fruit trees can now be exported thanks to the change. He added: "We expect a 40-50 million USD increase in our sector's exports with the lifting of the ban."
