News » 25.09.2025 - Dutch propagators further invest in insect netting

At Vreugdenhil Young Plants and Klugt Quality Plants (VKB), the second phase of a large-scale project has recently begun. Across several production sites, more than 12,000 insect mesh filter systems are being installed. These fine-mesh filters keep harmful insects out, reducing the need for crop protection products and creating more opportunities for biological control. To mark the start of the project, Carl Stougie from SchermNed visited the Burgemeester Crezeelaan location, bringing along a marzipan cake from Bakkerij Vreugdenhil to celebrate the occasion.

Technology without compromising
The insect mesh filter used in this project has been specially developed to block insects while still allowing maximum ventilation. The mesh is seamlessly integrated into the existing ventilation windows, without any adjustments needed to the greenhouse structure or ventilation mechanisms. Thanks to this design, the project can be carried out in phases without disrupting the cultivation process, something both Vreugdenhil Young Plants and Klugt Quality Plants consider essential.

"As SchermNed, we're proud of the trust this organization has once again placed in us," says Carl. "The work will continue over the coming weeks, and we're looking forward to a smooth project with our own insect mesh at the center. By next year, the final phases will also be fitted with mesh."
