News » 26.08.2025 - Using woodfibre to advance to a peat free future

New finer grades of Fibagro Advance woodfibre will take center stage on ICL's Four Oaks stand, which highlights advancements in sustainable growing media for ornamental and edible crops, as well as a new, next-generation pot topper.

To support the transition to peat-free solutions, ICL introduces two new Fibagro Advance grades: Super Fine (0-3mm) and Fine (0-10mm), joining their Standard and Coarse grades. Adrian Thirtle-Watts, ICL Sales Manager, explains that these products are manufactured from by-products of the UK timber industry, making Fibagro Advance a sustainable input within a circular economy. By screening and blending the four Fibagro Advance fractions, ICL can optimize the performance of their sustainable mixes. At Four Oaks, ICL will showcase six proven new peat-reduced and peat-free Levington Advance mixes for ornamental crops, ranging from propagation to CNS production. As with all their products, these mixes can also be tailored to meet specific nursery requirements.

At Four Oaks, ICL is launching its new high-performance Fibagro Advance Pot Topper FT to the UK market. This product, which won the 'Best New Product Award' at the GLAS trade show in Dublin, offers effective weed suppression and moisture retention for container nursery stock. Thanks to a unique ICL binder, the pot topper remains stable even in windy conditions or if pots fall over. It can be applied manually or with an automated pot-topping machine, combining convenience with strong performance. Visitors can look forward to demonstrations and free samples available at the stand.

To help the edibles sector meet rising sustainability demands and comply with peat-reduction targets, ICL has developed its first peat-reduced blocking substrate, Levington Advance Blocking FT (Fusion Technology). This product is designed for field crop propagation using blocking trays and is formulated with a combination of milled peat and Fibagro® Advance. It features ICL's Fusion Technology, ensuring that blocks hold together until roots are fully formed.

Other stand highlights will include the opportunity to consult with ICL's technical team regarding bespoke growing media and nutrition packages incorporating Osmocote 5, Universol, and Peters controlled release and water-soluble ranges. Additionally, attendees can learn about the cost-effective 3-in-1 wetting agent H2Gro, eco-conscious growing media incorporated vine weevil control Lalguard M52, and Vitalnova TriBoost, a microbial inoculant boosting plant vitality in sustainable media.

Having recently acquired GreenBest, ICL will also feature the UK-based manufacturer of tailored specialty fertilizers' product portfolio on their stand.

Lastly, ICL's Technical Manager, Andrew Wilson, will be hosting a seminar at 11:00 am on September 2nd, titled: "Are You Maximising the Potential of Sustainable Growing Media?" This practical seminar will present 2025 Levington Advance trial results, along with the latest information on biodegradable Osmocote coatings and integrated Total Solutions for sustainable growth.
