News » 30.04.2025 - Raymond Evison Clematis reveals presence at RHS Chelsea 2025 "The setting for this year's exhibit will be an imaginary Guernsey seashore scene with 2,500 clematis in full bloom"

This year, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show exhibit from Raymond Evison Clematis will not only showcase a range of clematis cultivars that were bred by Evison® and Poulsen® during the latter part of the 20th century and the early part of the 21st century, but also six new cultivars that have emerged from the 2014 Raymond J. Evison Ltd. breeding program. These were also bred in Raymond's state-of-the-art, modern, and environmentally friendly Guernsey Clematis Nursery.

The setting for this year's exhibit will be an imaginary Guernsey seashore scene with 2,500 clematis in full bloom, some coming ashore in imitation wooden boats. Each boat will carry a cargo of brightly colored clematis on a sea and shoreline composed of dark blue, mauve, and light blue flowering clematis, with white clematis flowers representing the crest of the waves or the surf.

Show visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the exhibit on a wooden serpentine walkway where the boats are moored or beached on sand, which will be littered with Guernsey seaweed, pebbles, driftwood, and the occasional scallop, ormer, or oyster shells, and of course, mermaids' purses.

The exhibit will feature a fisherman's hut, traditionally and locally made Guernsey willow fishing baskets, crab and lobster pots, along with a vraic pannier that was used by donkeys in the past to transport vraic (seaweed) to the fields of the islands.

These baskets are being loaned for the exhibition by Max and Claire Gaudion from 'Guernsey Willow Baskets,' who still make these heritage craft items, some of which are on the Heritage Craft Red List of endangered heritage crafts.
