News » 21.04.2025 - Tim Schuette, A-ROO explains U.S. Tariffs: The case for American-made packaging products
"There is no better time than now to buy American-made products." While this statement rings true and presents a significant advantage for U.S.-based companies, it doesn't come without its challenges – especially these days, explains Tim Schuette, Director of Supply Chain at A-ROO Company LLC, a packaging manufacturer. In this article, he discusses how the company is navigating these challenges and highlights the advantages of having a U.S. based production facility.
Uncertainty and extra costs
The rapid changes and ongoing uncertainty have led to unforeseen and additional costs. As Schuette explains, "Managing the tariffs has been a challenge due to sudden policy shifts that cause unexpected expenses. A decision based on the available information today might be completely different tomorrow."
The complexity is further compounded by the company's extensive product offering, which includes over 1,000 items. "Because we offer so many different types of products, it has been time-consuming to determine how the tariffs apply to each product category," he adds.
Spreading risks
How is A-ROO dealing with it? Over the last years, they diversified their supply chain to mitigate risks. "As it relates to our supply chain, Covid proved that diverse supply chains are necessary more than ever in today's global landscape and we've worked over the past three years to solidify relationships and establish high-quality production facilities located in several different countries around the world. If one production facility or region is hit by tariffs, natural disasters, political instability, or pandemics, others can keep our supply chain flowing. We have avoided putting all our eggs in one geopolitical basket."
U.S. based production location in Ohio
Of course, with the current tariffs, their own U.S.-based production facility is an advantage. "Most notably, what sets us apart from others is our ability to produce cost-effective and high-quality products at our own production facility located in Strongsville, Ohio. There is no better time than now to buy American-made products."
