News » 08.04.2024 - Fruit and berry imports to Kazakhstan decreased slightly in 2023

 In 2023, Kazakhstan imported 672,400 tons of fruits and berries, marking a decrease of 0.6% compared to 2022. The total import cost amounted to $415.9 million.

Tangerines and oranges were prominently supplied to the local market, totalling 117,900 tons (up 1.5 times). China emerged as the leading citrus seller with 68,000 tons (up 2.4 times), followed by Pakistan with 28,100 tons (up 14.7%). Citrus imports also came from Iran (4,400 tons, up 2.9 times), Egypt (3,500 tons, up 1.5%), and Argentina (170.3 tons, down 1.6 times).

Foreign apples were popular among Kazakhstanis, with 97,600 tons imported (up 7.6%). Poland remained the primary supplier with 56,000 tons (up 0.4%), along with Uzbekistan (19,700 tons, up 1.5 times) and Azerbaijan (7,200 tons, up 1.8 times).

Kazakhstan procured over 80,000 tons of apricots, peaches, and plums (down 5%) from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China.

Grapes saw a significant decrease, totalling 77,400 tons (down 26.7%), sourced from China, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

Banana imports slightly decreased to 75,900 tons (down 12.6%), primarily from Ecuador (72,100 tons, down 2.2%).

Watermelon imports decreased by 11.8% to 41,000 tons, sourced from Uzbekistan, Iran, and Brazil.

Additionally, Kazakhstan imported dates (35,500 tons) from Iran, Israel, and Algeria, pears (34,700 tons) from Poland, China, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and grapefruits and lemons (19,300 tons) from China, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.

Berry imports (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants, etc.) increased by 1.5 times to 16,000 tons, primarily from Uzbekistan (8,600 tons, up 9.9%) and Kyrgyzstan (3,600 tons, up 5.2 times), with a small batch from the Netherlands (102.8 tons, up 16.8%).

Kiwi imports increased by 25% to 10,300 tons from Iran, China, and Chile.

Avocados (394 tons, up 42.4%) were supplied by the Netherlands, Peru, and Israel.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan imported pineapples (3,800 tons, up 2.3 times) from Costa Rica and China, mangoes, and guava (1,200 tons, up 35.8%) from China, Brazil, and Pakistan.
