News » 25.09.2026 - Highlands Potplants expands with new Dutch location

Highlands Potplants, based in the Westland region of the Netherlands, is expanding its operations in Honselersdijk. The company has acquired a new 4-hectare nursery on Pouwelslaan, along with an adjacent 2.5-hectare plot.

The site, currently used for tomato production, will be converted for the cultivation of Agapanthus Amourette. Meanwhile, the company's locations in 's-Gravenzande and De Lier will take on production of Portulaca Bloomigo, spring bowls, and LZ Orchidee's Cymbidium.

"Over the past few years, we've added several new crops, and that has pushed us to the limits of our existing locations," says Nick Duijvestijn of Highlands Potplants. "This new site gives us room to grow further and lets us organize our different crops more efficiently."

Renovation work is expected to begin around mid-November, with Highlands Potplants aiming to be fully operational at the new location by February 1, 2027.

Making operations more sustainable and automating
According to Nick, the expansion isn't primarily about adding square footage. The new site is also meant to create opportunities for smarter, more sustainable operations. It already has access to geothermal energy and an e-boiler, and plans include further automation in both the greenhouse and the packing area.

"We want to keep making the company a bit more efficient and sustainable," Nick says. "The advantage is that we can design this location completely from scratch, which gives us a lot more control over how things are set up."

The new location should also allow the company to improve service and product quality. "We're not necessarily looking to get bigger, our main goal is to keep growing through high-quality products. This expansion gives us the room to do that, while also making us more future-proof."

Highlands Potplants has been nominated for the Dutch Flower Awards 2026 in the "Next Generation Growers" category.
