PlantVation AB made its debut as an exhibitor at GreenTech 2026, presenting its QS GreenBox system to an international audience for the first time at a major trade show. The Swedish company develops closed-environment vertical cultivation technology focused on propagation.
"Our technology is a complement to existing growers, a way for them to strengthen themselves, become more efficient, produce higher quality crops, and improve the financial aspects of their operation," says Johanna Westman, Co-Founder and CEO.
Two million seedlings per batch
The QS GreenBox Stationary is a large-scale installation designed for industrial buildings, producing up to two million seedlings per batch within a 100-square-meter footprint, with an annual capacity of up to 24 million seedlings.
The response to the company's technology at the trade show was positive. "We've had the opportunity to meet potential clients and partners from all over the world. It's a very efficient way to make new contacts and build new relationships."
A product range for different scales
Alongside the Stationary, PlantVation offers two further variants of the QS GreenBox. The Mobile version is installed inside a standard 40-foot freight container, requiring only an electricity and water connection to operate, with an annual capacity of up to five million seedlings. Additional units can be added to scale production.
The QS GreenBox Innovation is a smaller-scale unit designed for R&D and feasibility work, allowing nurseries to verify cultivation results, test new substrates, nutrients, and species, and evaluate the system before committing to a full-scale installation.
From Swedish forests to South American eucalyptus
PlantVation's client base spans two distinct markets. Forestry remains the primary segment, with major Swedish companies Holmen and Sveaskog among its clients, alongside South American forestry group Arauco, where the QS GreenBox is used for eucalyptus cuttings.
Within horticulture, the system handles lettuce, herbs, strawberries and celery, with the agriculture segment growing steadily. "We are the only company able to provide the technology for large-scale production for both forestry and agriculture," Johanna says.
Planteva and the North American push
The company's most significant commercial development to date is its partnership with Montreal-based Planteva Farms. Planteva is building propagation facilities across North America based on PlantVation's QS GreenBox technology, operating a Seedling-as-a-Service model that supplies uniform seedlings to greenhouse, indoor and field growers.
The Montreal facility is equipped with two QS GreenBox units, giving it capacity for more than 50 million seedlings annually. "They already have very strong commercial contracts in place, and they're launching their business now."

Finding vertical farming's footing
Johanna offered a measured view of the broader vertical farming sector, framing propagation as one of the areas where the technology's economics make most sense. "I think vertical farming as a whole is an industry still finding its footing. It's going to be more successful as a complement to existing technologies than as a replacement for everything."
