News » 27.05.2026 - US (CO): Plant orders impacted by drought conditions

While parts of the western slope saw rain Monday, dryer weather this year has created drought conditions that have impacted gardening. Win Gardens, a local wholesale greenhouse that sells plants across Colorado, has seen impacts from dry conditions this year.

The greenhouse began planting around February. This year, they are growing around 200,000 units and recently began selling for the spring. While sales have not been affected much locally, they have seen a change from people ordering from places like Aspen and Vail.

"The weather this year has definitely impacted our production planning and our sales," said Chris Van Wingerden, co-owner of Win Gardens. "We've already had calls from landscapers and farmers that would like to either reduce or change their pre-orders because of water restrictions."

Win Gardens says their watering practices are much less demanding than other people, like a corn farmer, may need, so they have not needed to make any changes there. While they use between 3,000 and 5,000 gallons of water a day, they have an automatic watering system in place that reuses the water that does not go to the plants.
